As elsewhere, this is not remotely the case.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family business represents close to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.com\/c1\/en\/2023fbs\/pwc_2023_family_business_survey_cee.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">half<\/a> of private sector employment across the CEE region, which should hardly be surprising since family business represents <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/private-equity-and-principal-investors\/our-insights\/the-secrets-of-outperforming-family-owned-businesses-how-they-create-value-and-how-you-can-become-one\" target=\"_blank\">about 70 per cent<\/a> of global GDP and 60 per cent of global employment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/emerging-europe.com\/news\/as-optimism-about-the-global-economy-returns-ceos-in-cee-view-transformation-as-vital-to-survival\/\">As optimism about the global economy returns, CEOs in CEE view transformation as vital to survival<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/emerging-europe.com\/news\/growth-in-central-and-eastern-europe-will-strengthen-in-2024\/\">Growth in Central and Eastern Europe will strengthen in 2024<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/emerging-europe.com\/news\/the-eu-has-been-very-good-for-emerging-europe\/\">The EU has been very good for emerging Europe<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>As I demonstrate in a recently published report, family business isn\u2019t a small part of the business world, it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesmartlink.org\/2024_Transylvania_Bank_Global_Family_Business.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most<\/a> of the business world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s more, family businesses tend to be some of the most forward-looking and successful businesses\u2014and in CEE they stand out as being above the global average in many respects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In CEE, 83 per cent of family businesses report growth, compared to 73 per cent globally, and only five per cent report falling sales, compared to eight per cent globally. Furthermore, 80 per cent expect to see future growth over the next few years while only 77 per cent of family businesses do so globally.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is great news for a regional area that hasn\u2019t fully converged with Western Europe, despite that the growth itself has been close to phenomenal: the Central Europe and the Baltic region had a GDP PPP per capita of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/data.worldbank.org\/indicator\/NY.GDP.PCAP.PP.CD?locations=B8\" target=\"_blank\">about 7,000 US dollars<\/a> in 2000 and by 2022 that had grown to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/data.worldbank.org\/indicator\/NY.GDP.PCAP.PP.CD?locations=B8\" target=\"_blank\">over 42,000 US dollars<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Loyalty and stability<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Family businesses form the backbone of employment in CEE. Their contribution to job creation not only bolsters local economies but also provides a stabilising force in the face of economic fluctuations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The familial ethos often translates into a commitment to employee well-being, sometimes fostering a sense of loyalty and stability within the workforce.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A notable strength of family businesses in CEE lies in their ability to innovate and adapt to changing market dynamics.
